RESEARCH & WORK EXPERIENCE
Research Cruise || SO285 || Aug-Nov 2021
Sampled mesopelagic fishes off the coast of South Africa and Namibia as part of the TRAFFIC project. Sorted animals into taxa, identified to species level using taxonomic keys, and took tissue
samples for next-gen molecular analyses. Collected water samples for eDNA analyses from a CTD.
Research Cruise || SO276 || June-July 2020
Participated in sampling for the IceAGE3 project, collecting benthic animals in the deep sea around
Iceland. Assisted with live sorting, preservation of samples, DNA extraction and PCR on board. Categorized animals into taxa and helped with the epibenthic sledge and assisted with proper storage techniques for frozen samples. Facilitated in communication between the ROV team and the control room, taking requests from researchers on land and giving instructions on which animals to sample.

Research Cruise || 64PE454 || June-July 2019
Partook in deep-sea exploration at the Rainbow hydrothermal vent field south of the Azores along the Mid-Atlantic ridge sampling biodiversity through a variety of methods. Worked on boxcore sampling, securing specimens from landers, and eDNA collection from a CTD. Assisted with a towed video system and collected research specimens from a large volume sampler.

Demonstrator/Teaching Assistant
Assisted in the teaching of courses at different stages of my education so far, including Marine Biology Lab, Zoology Lab, Botany Lab, General & Organic Chemistry Lab, and General College Physics during my undergrad. Now at JCU, I am demonstrating for Aquaculture of Topical Species and Fundamentals of Ecology.

Tour Guide
Guided tours through the Haus der Natur, a science-based museum in Austria, for children and teenagers. This included the reptile zoo, the new exhibition on evolution, and a short-term exhibition on taxodermy.

Intern
Interned at many different institutions, for example the Bavarian State Collection of Zoology in Munich, the Deep Sea Ecology Lab in Dania Beach run by Prof Tracey Sutton, the Royal Netherlands Institute of Sea Research (NIOZ), and the German Center for Marine Biodiversity Research (DZMB).
